How to be Business Casual in the Office without Buying New Clothes
No slacks, button down shirts, or suit blazers in your closet, don't sweat it. You can achieve the business casual look with a few
things that are already there.
1.
Dresses and Skirts
Regardless of the length or fit, dresses and skirts can be
made into a work appropriate outfit. Even though you should steer clear of club
wear, it can look a little bit more professional with a few additions. One
necessity with a short skirt or dress is a pair of tights- stockings and or leggings.
If it’s sleeveless or low cut on the top, wear some sort of covering like a
shawl, blazer or cardigan.
2.
Black pants or jeans
Business slacks may not be in your closet, but maybe you
have non-jeans pants. These are wearable if you pair them with something more
professional on the top like a button down shirt or a blazer. If you only have
jeans, black is the best. They can hide the jean material and look a little
more professional in a work setting, but try to keep the jean wearing to a bare minimum and remember to stay clear of leggings unless they are underneath a dress, tunic or a skirt.
3.
Tanks
In lieu of a button down shirt, a collared shirt, or a blouse,
you can actually wear a tank top. They are comfortable and lightweight so they
are perfect to wear in the summertime, but they should be worn with a shawl,
blazer, or cardigan to not overexpose your chest area. Also, remember to pull up your tank to not reveal any cleavage.
4.
Cardigans or Blazers
Cardigans and blazers make it possible for you to wear many
of the things I stated above. They don’t have to be suit jackets, but they shouldn't be bedazzled with spikes and rhinestones either. Try to go for
simpler designs and or more classic shapes. Also, cardigans are multi-purpose.
Everyone should have a button up sweater in their closet for a brisk fall day, church, school or work.
5.
Boots or Ballet Flats
It may be a little too expensive, uncomfortable, or dressy
in some circumstances to wear high heeled shoes to work. An alternative is
ballet flats, which are cheap, cute, and hassle-free. In the winter and fall months, ballet flats may not be the way to go. Another option are boots
for the fall and winter, and in some cases-spring. They protect your feet and
legs from overexposure, rain and wind and are stylish at the same time.
So tell me, do you guys think that these articles of clothing
are appropriate for a business casual environment? Can anything be made
business causal with the right accessories or should you just always stick with
the suit and tie classic? Comment below.
