6 Signs that your Vagina May be at Risk
Our vaginas are extremely complex, sensitive and
independent. They have a mind of their own. Our period comes when it wants to,
changing if it feels like it, our vaginas discharge and sometimes have a weird
smell. They range in color, size, shape, and even texture and this is why they need extra attention. If any of the 6 things below are happening to you, go to
your local doctor. It is also good to have a gynecologist that you visit annually because sometimes the signs aren’t as evident.
1.
An Odor
a.
Be aware of the natural smell of your vagina. If
there is ever a detour from this, like a yeasty or fishy odor, you might have an
infection.
2.
Unusual Discharge
a.
One of the tell tale signs of a vaginal yeast
infection is white and clumpy (cottage cheese like) discharge.
b.
A bacterial infection is usually marked by
milky-white, yellowish or greenish discharge that is more than normal.
3.
Swelling
a.
Swelling can be caused by a shift of the balance
of vaginal bacteria. Be aware of Vaginitis which is the umbrella term for a
number of bacterial, vaginal issues.
4.
Scabs/ Wounds/ Sores
a.
This can be a sign of a sexually transmitted
infection like Herpes, but you can’t be sure until you head to the doctor.
5.
Unusual Itching/ Burning
a.
Itching may seem normal after shaving, but if
that is not the case and it is on the outer labia and groin area head to the doctor.
6.
Skipped Periods
a.
Like I said earlier, sometimes our period shifts
and it may be due to stress, changing hormones or a number of other
environmental factors. But, if you have not been having sex, have no chance of
pregnancy and your period doesn’t come at all, go to the doctor.
If you have the slightest notion that something is wrong,
please visit your local doctor or clinic. It’s always better to be safe than
sorry. Recently, someone told me a story of them having a yeast infection for
three months before going to the doctor and by then her vagina felt like it was
on fire. Please, please, please don’t let that be you.
