5 Myths Unveiled

Myth: Every woman should douche. It cleans your vagina and makes you healthier.
Truth: Douching washes away the good bacteria called floura that is meant to naturally help your vagina. It also changes the acidity of the vagina that is usually in balance and prevents infection.

Myth: Tampons make you lose your virginity.
Truth: Many people compare tampons to penises, but they are definitely not the same. Tampons are used by many people who aren't sexually active for swimming or athletics purposes. The hymen can be broken by a tampon, but it can also be torn from stretching or dancing. It is extremely sensitive and is not directly related to virginity.

Myth: You can contract HIV through touching or the interchange of saliva.
Truth: HIV or Human Immunodeficiency Virus can only be passed through blood, semen, breast milk, and vaginal secretions. The most commons ways that it is passed is through anal sex, vaginal sex, and the sharing of hypodermic needles. Even though less common, it is still possible to pass HIV through oral sex (if there are open wounds from brushing teeth or a sudden lost tooth), pregnancy, breastfeeding, infected blood transfusions, and infected organ donations.

Myth: You cannot contract STD’s through oral sex or touching.
Truth: There are STDs such as Herpes that can simply be passed through skin to skin contact.

Myth: Only women can prevent pregnancy (usually by taking birth control pills).
Truth: Men can prevent pregnancy by wearing condoms. Also, there are new birth control pills and shots being created for men.
