Lifestyles and Relationships “The Lack of Parenting”

So about a month ago me and my supervisor went to screen for our program SIHLE, which stands for Sisters Informing Healing Living and Empowering, which is a healthy lifestyles workshop for females between 14 and 18. Here teens learn about gender and ethnic pride, self esteem and empowerment, STDS/HIV/AIDS, and the differences between healthy, unhealthy, and abusive relationships. Yes a very interested program that teens need in order to make healthier lifestyle decisions. So why, is it sometimes hard to get participants within our target population and what do parents have to do with it? The fact of the matter is that parents are just what their title states, which is that you are parents. Which also means that you are entitled to have the  last say in anything that involves your child. Especially when it is in your child’s best interest. Parents today are completely the opposite. Nowadays, parents leave decisions up to their children, like making educational decisions as well as decisions on whether to attend or not to attend specific programs.   The fact that parents leave important decisions up to their children is obnoxious,  and  is beginning to annoy me. Parents if you think a program is beneficial for your child, you should one; not allow them to make significant decisions on whether to attend or not attend a program, two; you should ask for their opinions regarding specific programs, and three; you should always make final decisions regarding your child. Yes your child, because in the end, you are the parent who holds responsibility for you child, as well as knowing whats in their best interests.  I'm sorry if I sound a little harsh on parents today, but I just don't want another teen missing out on important information, that can benefit them now as well as in their future. Thanks
