Fan to Stan: Getting Too Caught Up in Celebrity Lives
We all have that one celebrity that we feel we’d do almost
anything to see. Sometimes we may even feel like we know them personally
because we keep up to date with what’s new in their life. What happens though
when a person goes from being a fan to a “stan”? The term “stan” comes from
putting the two words “staker” and “fan” together. It can be defined as anyone
who takes being a fan to the extreme to the point where it interferes with his
or her everyday life. Its one thing to want to admire a celebrity but we should
never become infatuated with them. They should not govern how we live our lives
included but not limited to what we should eat, what we buy, who we like and
don’t like, or even how we view ourselves. I’ve even seen people not talk for
days or even relationships end because of an argument centering on some
celebrity. Being so connected with the internet today makes it a lot easier to know the ins and
outs of our favorite celebrities but there is a very thin line between a fan and
stan. Pursue a realistic passion, don’t be duped into thinking that these
celebrities are who they say they are, and most importantly live for yourself
not for others. Celebrity worship is on the rise, but please don’t
follow that wave.
