Performing Arts Classes for Teens

Is your Teen interested in the Arts?

SCH Creative & Performing Arts Inc., will be starting classes in Vocal Music, Music Production, Dance, and Photography starting October 1st, 2012.

Classes will be held in the North West section of Philadelphia around the corner from King High School at The Philadelphia Center of Arts and Technology.

Classes run from Oct 1st through the week of Dec 10th on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:00pm.

All classes are $96 for the 10 week semester.

Dance (modern & Jazz) -Monday 6:30 to 8pm

 Joining our Dance sector will be perfect for you!
Dance is an art form which focuses on movement of the body, usually rhythmic and to music, used as a form of expression. Dancers, choreographers, and all those involved in studying and performing dance take part in defining and reinterpreting the art form. SCH CAPA Dance division provides development and expansion for all youth. They will learn dance skills and techniques in class and in performance, study the historical and cultural significance of dance and its evolution as an art form, and evaluate personal work and the work of others.

Dance SCH CAPA members will:

• Gain significant knowledge of dance elements, principles, and concepts.
• Develop and apply an understanding of basic principles of choreography.
• Apply knowledge, skills, and techniques of dance, in formal dance presentations.
• Effectively communicate ideas, thoughts, and feelings through dance.
• Attend Dance performance within in the Philadelphia community prior to their grand performance.

Music Production -Monday 6:30 to 8:00pm

This class is a unique, flexible, and completely personalized combination of beginners training in music production and audio engineering.
Modern digital technologies have made it possible to create and record sound anywhere, but using the right tools is just the beginning.
Our program is about more than teaching the right buttons to push; it’s about developing your ears and working with others.

Maximize your Artistry through Vocal Music!!

Perfect!! This fun and exciting vocal training class will start you on your way to becoming the next American Idol. Students will focus on vocal warm-ups, proper breathing technique, pitch, control sight reading and phrasing for singers. Emphasis will be placed on fun, showmanship, and contemporary music that everyone can enjoy while working on singing techniques to last a lifetime. Want to be on Broadway? Want to be an Artist? You’ll learn how to use these techniques to achieve your ultimate goal as an Artist or broadway star here!

What is Vocal Music?

Vocal music is a genre of music performed by one or more singers, with or without instrumental accompaniment, in which singing (i.e. vocal performance) provides the main focus of the piece. This division entails learning Vocal Scales, breathing techniques, rhythm, dynamics, timbre, correct diction, phrasing and visualization and basic sight reading. These are all methods that teach the singer about the mechanism of singing. VM members will perform as a choir in their grand concert consisting of the following genres jazz, gospel, classical, rhythm and blues, and broadway.
VM SCH CAPA members will:
• Develop knowledge of quality compositions, composers, and performers.
• Experience the enjoyment and sense of accomplishment in performing music
• Value the skill of reading music (sight reading)
• Understand the various roles of music in society.
• Develop various performance techniques
• Identify a personal aesthetic response to music


Photography- Wednesday 6:30 to 8pm

Learn the art of making pictures!

Maximize your Artistry through Photography!!
Give life to your artistic vision through digital photography! Learn fundamentals such as composition, light & shadow, exposure, depth of field and apply these concepts to different genres of shooting including landscape, still life, portrait and candid shots.
Members will utilize the full school space taking interior and exterior shots and occasionally travel around the city Philadelphia to expand their artistic eyes. Each week students will select photos from their collected work to print. Members will use their selected photos for their portfolios and showcase them during the end of the 10 week program.
