“Are You Going to Rock the Vote?”

It’s the year 2012, which means we are in another presidential election year. Politics may not be the most interesting topic to discuss, but it is one of the most important parts of our society. Politics governs how you and I as a citizen can benefit from this country. Unfortunately, the fact of the matter is there are many people out there who do not care to partake in the act of voting. How can we expect to get the most out of our country when we are not willing to find out who is running it? Living in a democratic country means the people have a voice. We have the right to decide what can be done within this country by using our ability to vote. There was a time when every citizen in this country did not have the right to vote, and I’m not only talking about African Americans either because women were also not allowed to vote. So you say you want to see less libraries being shut down, and you’d like to see more jobs in your community? Well you can do something about it. Get out there and listen and pay attention to those who are running to be your next president. Don’t just vote for someone because everyone is, but truly look at each candidate for what they stand for. And when you do get out there and vote, don’t just leave it at voting for the president, because he or she is not the end all be all in making things happen. Vote for governors, mayors, and city councils, everything that can affect you. So I’ll ask it again, are you going to rock the vote?
